Gheorghe Scripca
1930 - 2002
Gheorghe Scripca, my father, was born in Moldavia, Romania on July 27, 1930. He grew up during World War II - a childhood full of adventures and hardships which, later, made him enjoy and appreciate family life every single day next to my mother, Viorica Scripca, my brother and me.
A lecturer at Bucharest Drama Institute in his mid 20's and 30's and a TV producer in his 40's, 50's and 60's my Dad never gave up his true love for creative writing.
He possessed a great talent in writing plays for different theaters, poetry, and, most of all, novels for young people. An unforgettable moment was my collaboration with my Dad in the translation and adaptation of a children's book by the Bulgarian author Leda Mileva.
I never said "farewell" to my parents when "Fate" moved me from Bucharest, Romania to California, USA. Although separated by an entire continent and an ocean, our spirits always remained close.
Gheorghe Scripca passed away in 2002 leaving behind a grieving family but an explosion of beauty of the paternal soul.
I miss you, Dad!
Love you forever,
Iolanda
Viorica Scripca
1932 - 2005
Viorica Scripca, my mother, was born in Moldavia, Romania, in a hardworking family. She had always stressed the importance of education, of a lifetime commitment to learning . She was a professor in Economics in her late 20's and beginning 30's and a teacher and principal of a prestigious high school in Bucharest, Romania in her 30's, 40's and 50's.
Beside her career, my Mom was a promoter of the arts and literature. She was a principal who gave her students the opportunity to experience live theater by organizing shows with the elite actors Romania had to offer during that time. I remember growing up in a household where poets, writers, movie directors and actors gathered and read their own creations almost every other weekend. I remember her picking up all the napkins and little sheets of paper with my poems on them and writing them down in a real note book. (I was only six years old at the time...) Her continuous encouragement and love made her a SPECIAL mother and wife.
I'll always cherish her high morals and warmth.
I Love You, Mom!
